Before . . .
I was an heir to damnation, Hell was at the door
Before I met my Savior, Jesus Christ, my Lord
Now I shall own Glory, an heir with God Himself
All because He paid the price and gave for me his life
The devil still in knocking, trying to get in
With just one call to Jesus I can over come my sin
A waging war within me, to last my whole life through
Jesus owns the victory and the keys to Heaven too
Now resting in His promise I drink the blessings in
How easy now to forget the kind of life I lived
More prone am I do boast to others, to think myself the best
As if this blessed life I live abounds from what I did
Pride will take me to the peak and throw me from its cliff
Slice me on the rugged edges, crush me in its grip
Because I knew my Savior and took for me His place
Worse off will I be in the end than I ever was before
So let me not forget my Lord and all He did for me
He picked me up when I was down, He made my eyes to see
Oh let me not forget, the filthy scum I was before
Lest I give up Heaven's glory to enter through death's door.
