Go, Dog, Go (by P.D. Eastman)

Go, Dog, Go is a book your child will have you reading over and over and over again! It is a great “first word” book that teaches the basic colors, beginner words, directions, and more.

In this book, Are You My Mother, a baby bird leaves his nest and goes looking for his mother. Children love this book. If you are doing a preschool study of animal babies and their mothers this book can be a great addition to that.

The Best Nest (by P.D. Eastman)

In this book The Best Nest, Mrs. Bird does not share Mr. Bird’s love for their home and is convinced that they should go looking for a new place to live. This is not only a very cute story, but one that presents opportunities to teach children about where birds live, how they build their nests, as well as the importance of being content.

Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (by Virginia Lee Burton)

Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel is a story about a man who is faced with the dilemma that new, modern technology is putting him and his beloved steam shovel out of business. They take on a job in another city and set out to prove they have it in them to do a great job in record time. A great children’s classic!

Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb

Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb is a cute little book for young children that gives a basic introduction to hands and fingers, the different things you can do with your hands, and even a few basic instruments and the concept of rhythm and rhyme.

There are a lot of different activities you can do with your child to really engage further with this book and these concepts . . . Doing monkey related activities, learning more about the hands and the names of the different fingers, making a toy drum to play . . . I like to use this book as a fun introduction to some of these other learning activities.
