Raised Petal Doily / Coaster
I have had this pattern for almost forever. I found it in a Crochet World Magazine that I picked up at a rummage sale. (Crochet World Volume 10, Issue #4: Sept/Oct. 1987). I doubt you can get this magazine anymore, and I don’t know what copyright laws apply to a pattern that is so old. That said, I am listing the pattern here, and hoping that it does not violate any copyright laws. It is just too wonderful of a pattern to let die out.

Note: The next row of this pattern is a little challenging to get from just reading the pattern, so let me first explain a couple things so the pattern will make more sense.
There are 20 petals in all, each having 22 stitches. The primary goal of this row is to join EVERY OTHER petal together. Half of the petals will fold to the front, and the other half of the petals will fold to the back for a total of 10 front petals and 10 back petals.
It might be helpful, before you begin, to mark the 19th stitch of every petal by putting a small safety pin through it. As you work the last row of the pattern, you will need to identify the 19th stitch of each petal in order to accurately join the petals. Remember, you will be joining every OTHER petal together.
Odd numbered petals will fold back.
Even numbered petals will fold forward.
As you get started, keep the following pattern in mind:
Petal 3 will fold back and join to the 19th stitch of petal 1
Petal 4 will fold forward and join to the 19th stitch of petal 2
Petal 5 will fold back and join to the 19th stitch of petal 3
Petal 6 will fold forward and join to the 19th stitch of petal 2
And so on . . .
The joining of the final petals (petal 21 to petal 1) will be a little different from the rest (see Finishing).
Rnd 10: Join colored thread with sl st in third dc of any petal, ch 1, sc in same sp and in next 44 spaces (across first two petals and first 3 st of the the third petal), * fold back and sl st in the 19th stitch of the last odd numbered petal (skipping the previous petal worked) to join, sc in each of the remaining 19 stitches of current petal being worked, sc in first 3 st of next (now even numbered) petal, fold forward and sl st in the 19th stitch of the last even numbered petal (skipping the previous petal worked) to join, repeat from * ____ more times.
Finishing:
To join petal #21 with the first petal, you will need to turn the pattern and slip stitch back across last 6 sc made (to the 19th st of petal #21), join with sl st to the 3rd sc on petal #1. Finish off.
