Why Does It Fly? (A Just Ask Book)

Why Does It Fly? is part of Chris Arvetis’ series of science themed stories for kids. This is probably one of the best books for teaching children the aerodynamic principles of flight. It takes this very complex concept and really simplifies it to make it understandable for kids. And it does it in a way that is fun and entertaining through the curiosity and discoveries of Christopher Mouse.

Animated Heroes: The Wright Brothers. A classic children's movie that teaches kids about the two American bicycle repairmen that ignored all those who said it couldn't be done and risked everything to become the first to manage powered flight.

Amelia Who Could Fly

Amelia Who Could Fly is very age appropriate for reading to young kids. While a lot of other books draw a lot of attention to her “disappearance” and rather sad ending to her story, this book more focuses on her dreams and aspirations as a child and how she became interested in flying from an early age. The entire story is told in the first-person, with Amelia as a 10-year-old telling about how she wants to go on adventures and be famous some day. A very light read, which is perfect for young kids.

I Am Amelia Earhart

I Am Amelia Earhart. Another really great book for younger kids. This book follows Amelia Earhart from the time she is 7 years old until the time she successfully flies across the Atlantic ocean and breaks a couple world records. The book ends with Amelia encouraging kids to never let anyone tell them that their dreams are impossible.
