Praying for Your Husband: Loneliness

Father, I pray that you would satisfy ___(name)___’s need for companionship, his need for friendship, and his desire for true Christian fellowship. I pray that you would take away any feelings of loneliness or isolation, but that you would help him to feel loved and supported by me, by his family, and by good Christian friends.

At times when he finds himself to be all alone, I pray that you would be a very real and present companion, that he would sense your presence and know that you are with him. Be every real and near to him so that he would never feel alone or abandoned by you.

Father, I pray for the times that we are apart, when one of us is traveling and we are unable to be together in person. In those times, I pray that his thoughts of me, and the memories he brings to mind, would be pleasant, warm, and satisfying. That he would dwell on the cherished memories without opening any doors to self-pity, discontentment, or intense longing. Let these memories put a smile on his face and a song in his heart. Let them bless him and fill him and gratify him.

Never allow the memory of me to bring him pain or breed discontentment, but rather, in every recollection let there be great satisfaction and delight. Use even the thought of me to bless him and encourage him, even while we are apart, and especially when communication between us is limited.

Please, Father, in the midst of this separation, do not allow our longings to slay our appetite for living. Rather, let them inspire us to achieve great things and to make the most of every situation. Do not allow any longings or feeling of loneliness to discourage us in any way. Instead, let it be used to our benefit, for our good. Let it draw us closer to you and ever increase our love for one another. May our separations fill us with joyous anticipation for the day when we will be together again and may our feelings of loneliness work to make that day of reunion all the more precious and delightful for us.

As long as we are apart, keep us faithful to one another, keep us in your presence and hold us in your arms, guard us when temptation comes our way, and keep us from falling into sin. Let there be no cause for distrust or doubt on our part, but keep us faithful to one another and confident of the other person's loyalty and love.

I pray that you would open means of communication between us and allow our correspondence to be sweet and pleasant. And even as long distance communication can be difficult at times, I pray that you would give us the words to speak and prevent there from being any miscommunication between us, no strife, no dissension, no harsh words or sharp remarks, and no pain.

May all our partings be as if the last: sweet, loving, and passionate. May we never part on bad terms, or with unsettled disputes or discord. Rather, help us to put any such matters aside, bring resolve to any issues, and being at peace with each other so that we can part in love.

Likewise, when we come back together again, after a time of separation (whether it be for a short time or long) let there be a passionate excitement in our reunion and a joy indescribably. Let us pick up where we left off as if we had never been apart and let the reunion be such incandescent bliss that it would more than make up for the times apart and the moments of loneliness.

I pray, Lord, that every time ___(name)___ comes back to me that I would be able to detach myself completely from obligations and demands in life and be able to focus my undivided attention on him. Help me to be consistent in welcoming him back with open arms -- a welcome that he can come to look forward to and come to expect and receive with the greatest joy.

Help me never demand from him, or have expectations for him, when he first arrives. But help me to always see it as an honor to selflessly give of myself to see to his pleasure and comfort upon his return. In this way, let me honor him, and so honor you.

Amen!
